Ecoboost water pump

Ecoboost water pump

For some reason Mazda MZR and Ford Duratec engines uses an archaic stamped steel impeller in their water pumps.
The later Ford Ecoboost engines in the Mustang 2.3 has a compatible pump with a different design and material.

I’m no fluid dynamicist.., but that sleek curved vane design and the fully closed backplate hopefully will increase flow rate and efficiency.

Initial testing on the street in ~ 20C ambient seems to indicate the car runs cooler. But as with any performance part the real test is on the track.
And.. it’s also dirt cheap at $29 ( GATES 41211, Rock Auto) at the time of writing.

My new best friend gave me a primer on how coolant flow rate will affect cooling:

Science!
